The mayor of Santa Catarina, Jesús Nava Rivera, has generated controversy by expressing his dissatisfaction with Governor Samuel García and deciding to switch to Morena. It is rumored that Nava Rivera is working to gather some rural mayors currently part of Movimiento Ciudadano to the 4T party.
According to sources cited by LPO, Nava Rivera has promised Morena leaders, in addition to supporting with his structures in Santa Catarina, to negotiate with other mayors in rural areas in an effort to enhance support for 4T. The mayor argues that these mayors might be upset with the executive's management, as they did not receive the promised benefits upon joining Movimiento Ciudadano.
Nava Rivera seeks to persuade his colleagues to join Morena by offering them possible candidacies for 2027 and federal resources for notable municipal works. Some profiles in Santa Catarina, such as Mayor Mario Soto, Roberto Espinoza, Viridiana Lorelei, and Waldo Fernández, are already backing Morena in the lead-up to 2027. Municipalities such as Aramberri, Mier y Noriega, Abasolo, Zaragoza, among others, are mentioned.
Despite claims from the Cantera Palace that Nava's departure is not critical, there is concern about a potential loss of support.
